Living and working in Helsinki, Finland, Marika Maijala is an illustrator and children's book author. Her illustrations have been published throughout Finland and internationally in the US, United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, France, China, Estonia, Sweden, Denmark, India and Abu Dhabi.
In 2009, she was awarded the Rudolf Koivu prize for the best Finnish children's book illustration. Marika was also nominated for the Finlandia Junior prize in 2008 and 2012. She was shortlisted in 2015 and 2016 in The AOI World Illustration Awards and The White Ravens List. In 2016 Marika received a 3-year-grant for artistic work by the Arts Promotion Centre, Finland. The Swedish Government selected her as a candidate for the 2017 & 2018 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.
Her debut as a children's book author “Ruusun matka,” was released in October of 2018. Illustrations from this work were featured in The Bologna Illustrators Exhibition, 2019.
