Klaus Haapaniemi (b.1970) is one of the most internationally well-recognized London-based Finnish designers. In partnership with Mia Wallenius, Klaus has his own brand – the “Klaus Haapaniemi artisanal design and lifestyle” brand.
Influenced primarily by nature, their designs are filled with Finnish folklore and traditional decorative arts with a modern feel. Klaus and Mia also manage to incorporate nuances of art, ballet, music and storytelling in their unique designs. Haapaniemi has worked with some of the most iconic and recognized brands in the world such as Levi’s, Diesel and Dolce & Gabbana.
The World Global Style Network (WGSN) has deemed Klaus as “one of the most important rising stars.” Most recently, Haapaniemi has become known for his 2015 design piece “Cunning Little Vixen”, intended for the Finnish National Opera.
This has inspired the Tanssi dinnerware collection for Iittala. His brilliant sense of whimsy and magic is most beautifully captured in Iittala’s classic and popular Taika series of plates and mugs.
